Full Name: Cedric Cobbs School: Arkansas
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 220 40: 4.45 Number: 4
2002: Starter in the Hogs' first four games at tailback, then a toe injury kept him sidelined against Auburn, Kentucky and Ole Miss. Ranked fourth on the team in rushing with 399 yards and two touchdowns on 74 attempts.
2001: Appeared in nine of 11 contests, didn't play against Georgia and Weber State after suffering a hamstring injury. Third-leading rusher on the squad with 340 yards on 102 carries and topped the 100-yard rushing mark twice (Ole Miss, Mississippi State). Led the team with seven touchdowns, all of them coming on the ground.
2000: Preseason Doak Walker Award candidate and a consensus preseason All-SEC running back. Season cut short when he separated his right shoulder in the third game against Alabama.
1999: Posted the best rushing performance ever by a Razorback freshman. Rushed for a team-leading 668 yards on 116 carries, splitting time with senior Chrys Chukwuma. Caught 11 passes for 60 yards and returned 12 kickoffs 328 yards. All-purpose yardage total of 1,056 was the second-highest ever by a Hog freshman.
The Good: Smooth, fluid runner with an excellent combination of size and speed. Patient, sees the field and picks his way through the traffic. Waits for blocks to develop, follows linemen yet also displays the skill to slide off defenders. Runs with a good degree of authority, breaking tackles or using an effective straight arm to pick up yardage off initial contact. Powerful hips and lower body, easily adjusting off the initial hit. Solid receiver out of the backfield.
The Bad: Struggled through an up and down college career. Does not always play with an aggressive style and labeled "soft" by coaches. Not an explosive ball carrier and has more built-up speed than first step quickness. Injuries have cost him playing time since 2000. Several off-the-field issues.
The Skinny: Cobbs looked like the next "franchise running back" after a sensational campaign in 1999 when he was a true freshman, yet to date he has not built upon that campaign. Not the starter in 2002 and wasn't atop the depth chart this spring. Off to a quick start as a senior, which may change the present thinking about Cobbs amongst scouts, but several red flags will be raised during the pre-draft process.
