Full Name: Roy Williams School: Texas
Ht: 6-3 Wt: 210 40: 4.42 Number: 4
2002: All-Conference choice. Registered 64 receptions (No. 3 on UT's
single-season list) for 1,142 yards (No. 2) and a UT-record 12 touchdowns
despite battling a hamstring injury for six games. Holds UT career records for
TD receptions (27) and 100-yard receiving games (12). Ranks second on the
Longhorns' all-time receiving yards list (2,787) and third in receptions
2001: First-team All-Big 12 selection started all 13 games at split end.
Registered 67 receptions for 836 yards and seven touchdowns. Posted three
100-yard games and caught at least four passes in all 13 contests.
2000: Played in a 12 games, starting the final seven contests. Big 12
Offensive Freshman of the Year and a second-team Freshman All-American. Totaled
40 catches for 809 yards and eight touchdowns, breaking UT's freshman
single-season marks for receiving yards, 100-yard receiving games (three), TD
catches (eight), total TDs (10), and points by a non-kicker (62).
The Good: Tremendous athlete that displays the ability to take over
games. Catches the pass with solid fundamentals; extends his hands, looks the
pass in and catches the ball away from his frame. Decent route runner that
displays sharpness into his breaks, stays low, and then comes back to the ball
on exit. Extends vertically and snatches the high pass out of the air. Catches
the pass in stride and effective running after the catch. Fluid, explosive,
sized well yet fast and has a second gear. Displays both suddenness and
explosiveness to his game and has opponents playing back on their heels.
The Bad: Ineffective blocker and should be much better than he is.
Plagued by inconsistency and injury in the past. Disappears for stretches.
The Skinny: At the top of his games Roy Williams is a dominant wide out
that controls the tempo of contests or breaks them wide open. Yet he can be an
enigma and leave many thinking he is capable of more. Though not a "boom or
bust" type pick he is a prospect that comes with some risk. Must improve
his durability and consistency or will continue to tease scouts with his awesome
