Scouting the ACC: Wake Forest

Wake Forest has seen its share of competitive seasons and developed solid pro-prospects while Jim Grobe has been in charge. It is quite possible that they now have one of their best offensive prospects in a long while that will soon be playing in the NFL.

Receiver Jason Anderson is a tall, consistent pass catcher that shows a penchant for the big play.  A solid athlete, Anderson quickly gets off the line of scrimmage and displays good football smarts with the ability to make the difficult catch in traffic.  Not a burner or deep threat, he is a solid possession receiver must get physically stronger to beat the jam at the next level.  Anderson has solid first day potential going into next year's draft.  Center Blake Lingruen is a competitive blocker on the pivot and a lineman that goes hard until the whistle blows. Though a good position blocker with excellent hand punch, Lingruen lacks top footwork and the ability to play in space.

Wake as a pair of senior cornerbacks NFL scouts are watching.  Eric King is a solid cover man with top footwork, explosion and playing speed. Though he possesses adequate size King comes up short defending the run and would be better served playing in a zone system at the next level.  A good senior campaign coupled with solid showings in the off-season could push him into the draft's first day.  Teammate Marcus McGruder is another corner who flashes cover skills and a definite prospect for next April's later rounds.
