NFL Quick Training Camp Hitters

Bears-Safety Battle

Coming in to this off season, it was assumed that Mike Green would be the starter at strong safety again since he signed an extension last season.

However, third-year safety Bobby Gray looks to have that role secured.

With starting cornerback Jerry Azumah (neck) out until December and veteran CB R.W. McQuarters taking over for him, Green has been seeing time in a nickel role.

Colts-June Looks Like a Starter

Former collegiate defensive back Cato June was moved to weak side linebacker earlier this year. The move was a surprise to some considering the former starter there David Thornton seemed to show improvement last season. However, June has done a nice job of learning the position and continues to progress in their defense and barring a sudden change, he'll open up the season as the starter at the position.

Broncos-Running Back Battle to Heat Up

It was assumed that second-year running back Quentin Griffin would open up the regular season as the starter considering second-round pick Tatum Bell (broken finger) hasn't been able to participate in any contact drills.

Against Seattle this week, Bell is expected to see his first playing time this preseason and if he performs well, he could narrow the gap between him Griffin and veteran Garrison Hearst.
