Liberty Bowl, 12/31: Louisville-BYU
The Cougars of BYU were all set to finish the season undefeated and threaten the NCAA with lawsuits if they were left out of the BCS; that was until a 30 point loss to Hawaii during the seasons final contest. BYU's porous defense will be tested by Louisville's air attack, one of the best in the nation, and their high powered offense will be met with the Cardinal's fierce pass rush.
Cardinal quarterback Dave Ragone is a tremendous young prospect with a great head for his position. His passing on timing routes is precise and he has a good head for his position. We were astounded by his feel for the position when we personally scouted him against East Carolina. Ragone is making a lot of noise about leaving for the draft. Right now we'd project him as an early-to-middle selection in round two and feel he's better off returning to school and physically maturing, then becoming an early first round pick in 2003.
Each team has linebackers to watch; BYU's Justin Ena is solid in the middle while UL's Michael Josiah is an explosive athlete effective lining up in a three-point stance or off the line of scrimmage.
Cougar rusher Luke Staley is leaving for the draft, something we feel is a big mistake, as he will not play in this game, and do nothing for the next six months, but rehab his broken leg.
BYU: Ben Archibald/T, Ryan Denney/DE, Justin Ena/ILB, Doug Jolley/TE, Brett Keisel/DE, Aaron McCubbins/G, Dustin Ryker/T, Jason Scukanec/C, Luke Staley/RB, Teag Whiting/G
