Name: Cedric Benson School: Texas
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 215 40: 4.55
The Good: Powerfully built ball carrier with outstanding running back
skills. Displays excellent footwork in a small area and good first step
quickness. Runs with forward lean, low to the ground and has a burst through the
hole. Sets up then follows blocks, displaying excellent vision and the ability
to cut back in a small area. Gets a good amount of momentum going and tough to
bring down. Powerful, picks up yardage off initial contact and drives forward
when tackled. Outstanding running instincts as well as patience. Helps the
quarterback sell ball fakes.
The Bad: At times goes down rather easily. Does not always run with an
aggressive style. Gives marginal effort blocking and blows assignments.
The Skinny: Physically, Benson grades out as high as any running back
available in next April's draft. And though he can be a one-man show on the
field Benson has also displayed selfish tendencies in the past as well as a lack
of motivation. Presently in the midst of a terrific senior campaign and is
expected to test well prior to next April's draft, yet it is Benson's
interviews with scouts and coaches which will be the determining factor where he
is ultimately selected.
