Scouting Report: Chris Canty

Scouting Report:  Chris Canty  School:  Virginia

Ht:  6-5.5  Wt:  280  40:  4.94

The Good: Nice sized lineman that can be used at the left defensive end position or in a two-gap system.  Heady defender who diagnoses the action then quickly locates the ball.  Moves well laterally, chases in pursuit and rarely off his feet.  Easily holds his ground against blocks and works to get involved in the action.  Strong at the point, physically beats down opposing lineman and makes positive plays.

The Bad: Not quick or explosive off the snap.  Possesses more built up speed than actual suddenness.  Tore a knee ligament early this season and presently on the sidelines.

The Skinny: Potentially one of the better two gap lineman or left ends in the draft, Canty possesses the size and force scouts desire up front.  Lacked explosiveness before his knee injury yet worth the risk of a late first day pick if the MRI results on the injured joint are negative.
