Scouting Report: Loren Howard

Not amongst the pass rushing lineman the media heralds, Loren Howard is still an exciting NFL prospect with a bright future. Only a junior, he has been slowed by injuries during the 2004 campaign but still has NFL scouts paying close attention.

Scouting Report: Loren Howard  School:  Northwestern

Ht:  6-3  Wt:  275  40:  4.85

The Good: Intelligent, disciplined lineman, also a good athlete.  Plays low with leverage, gets underneath opponents and displays the ability to hold his ground against blocks. Relentless and chases very hard to get involved in the action.  Disciplined, reads the play and does not mindlessly wander around the field.  Chases laterally and relentless in pursuit of the ball handler.  Quick, displays good technique and the ability to get around blocks.

The Bad: Undersized and engulfed by bigger linemen.  Lacks top pursuit speed.

The Skinny: A hard working pass rusher, Howard is a productive collegian with good upside for the next level.  Best on the right side in a conventional defense, he must add bulk to his frame but is a solid first day pick in the future.
