Scouting Report: Mathias Kiwanuka

An explosive player that creates havoc in the opponents backfield rushing the passer, defends the run and even intercepts passes....that's the impact Mathias Kiwanuka has had at Boston College. And most NFL-scouts think he will continue to do the same at the next level.

Scouting Report: Mathias Kiwanuka  School:  Boston College

Ht:  6-7  Wt:  250  40:  4.68

The Good: Tremendous physical specimen and outstanding athlete soon to be labeled an impact defensive player.  Quick off snap, knifes to the inside and defeats blocks.  Fluid, displays good footwork and the ability to move laterally.  Alters his angle of attack and pursues from the backside, catching ball carriers.   Outstanding range, makes plays in all direction and constantly around the ball.  Bends his knees, keeps his pads low to the ground and rarely off his feet.  Displays terrific balance and body control.  Explosive off the snap with a nice first step, does a great job using his hands to stay off blocks and creates a lot of havoc in the opponent's backfield.  Also strong at the point and bulrushes opponents off the line defending the run.

The Bad:  Negatives: Not a sudden defender.  Must improve his upper body strength as he gets wired in blocks once engaged at the point.

The Skinny: Possessing all the physical tools to be a dominant defensive force, Kiwanuka has continually improved his game and is the player opposing offenses focus on or game plan around.  A very good prospect with a tremendous amount of upside potential and someone that will be drafted very early once he declares.
