AFC Buzz - Teams Making Moves

The Buffalo Bills who were written off by everyone, including the ownership early in 2004, are making a strong push for the playoffs. WR Lee Evans and RB Willis McGahee have been an essential part of the strong second half. Can they keep it rolling for the rest of the season ?

Buffalo Bills

Buzz: The Bills have come roaring back and now find themselves with an outside chance of getting into the playoffs. Drew Bledsoe has played very efficiently in the second half of the season and has hooked up with rookie wide out Lee Evans for some big plays. Willis McGahee seems to improve his strength each week and the Bills are positioned to have another offensive explosion against the Browns this week.

Miami Dolphins
Buzz: The Dolphins showed a little spark last week in their second game under Jim Bates. A.J. Feeley's interception problem may never be corrected, but it looks like Travis Minor can offer decent value in deep leagues. Chris Chambers has come alive and could also be a possible play down the stretch, but he is very streaky and serves as a risk.

New England Patriots
Buzz: The Patriots are so good they are hardly even talked about anymore. That's because they've become expected to win. With the way the NFL has become such a parity league, they are the closest thing to a modern-day dynasty. Last week they routed the Browns by running the ball 50 times. Look for much of the same this week against the Bengals pathetic run defense which means Corey Dillon and Kevin Faulk are both must plays.

New York Jets
Buzz: The return of Chad Pennington helped ignite the Jets offense last week and it is now safe to re-insert him back into your fantasy line up. Curtis Martin has been Mr. consistent this season rushing for at least 100 yards in seven of the Jets eleven games. Santana Moss hasn't had many good games this season. He is due for a breakout game that is just waiting to happen. Justin McCareins has been consistently average, we'll pass.

Baltimore Ravens

Buzz: The Ravens are going to be hesitant about bringing Jamal Lewis back too early. Brian Billick sounds like he is playing coy with the possibility that Lewis might play this week and Chester Taylor is likely to start again. In salary cap leagues Todd Heap could come at a cheap price and has a nice match up versus the Giants. No one else on the offense stands out.

Cincinnati Bengals
Buzz: The patience shown by Marvin Lewis is starting to payoff as Carson Palmer has strung together consecutive impressive performances the past couple of weeks. The improved Palmer has rejuvenated the explosive Chad Johnson and has made T.J. Houshmanzadeh a starting fantasy candidate. The running game has also picked up as Rudi Johnson has been solid in helping save the Bengals once thought to be lost season.

Cleveland Browns
Buzz: The Browns are likely to stick with Luke McCown for the remainder of the season. With Jeff Garcia being healthy enough to play this week, it seems his days with the club are outnumbered. Interim coach Terry Robiskie will use the time to give McCown an audition for next season. Antonio Bryant has been red-hot of late and could serve as a good fill-in. Sit Lee Suggs, it is very doubtful that he will play Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Buzz: The way the Steelers are built, Duce Staley's fantasy breakout days are over with for this season. The Bus will continue to split carries with him and as long as Bettis stays healthy he will see all the touchdown opportunities. Plaxico Burress is unlikely to play again, they will be cautious to risk any further injury at this point. It's hard to bet against Ben Roethlisberger, but he could be in store for a bad game against the Jets improved secondary.

Houston Texans
Buzz: The Texans offense has been very inconsistent this season as they have played the role of Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde. This is another game that could turn into a potential shootout as they face the Colts this week. David Carr and Andre Johnson are very strong plays this week. Domanick Davis is worth starting, but doesn't offer the same type of value.

Indianapolis Colts
Buzz: This could be a historic weekend for Eli Manning as he tries for Dan Marino's single season touchdown record. He currently needs 4 to tie the mark and the way he has been playing, he might break the record against the Texans. Manning has made all his receiving targets ample fantasy weapons and while Edgerrin James touchdown numbers have taken a hit this season, he still is capable of posting big numbers.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Buzz: The Jaguars face the Bears in a physical match up that could limit the Jaguars offensively. Don't count on Fred Taylor going off this week. Byron Leftwich will face a secondary that has played well of late, but that doesn't mean he won't have a big game. A good play is wide receiver Jimmy Smith.

Tennessee Titans
Buzz: If you've already read our Weekly Buzz this week then you know that Billy Volek is an excellent play this week. Last week it was Chris Brown with the big game, this week it will be Volek against the Chiefs who are ranked 31st against the pass. Start Derrick Mason and Drew Bennett, they are must plays. Brown looked good in his return, but hold onto Antowain Smith for insurance purposes.

Denver Broncos

Buzz: With an opponent of the Dolphins caliber, all Broncos are a go this week. Look for them to unleash their venom after last week's costly loss to the Chargers. Play the trio of Jake Plummer, Rod Smith and Reuben Droughns obviously, but Ashley Lelie, Tatum Bell and Jeb Putzier are all capable of providing dividends as well.

Kansas City Chiefs
Buzz: The Chiefs will go with Derrick Blaylock as their starter this week, but Larry Johnson could eventually take that job after the announcement that Priest Holmes is out for the season. They've been splitting carries the past couple of weeks and either one is capable of seeing the end zone, you could toss a coin with this one. Need a wide receiver? Check and see if Eddie Kennison is available, he could have another big game in him.

Oakland Raiders
Buzz: More bad news for the Raiders this week as they lose wide out Ronald Curry for the remainder of the season. Curry was really coming on strong up until the injury. Store him in the 'ol memory bank for next season as a possible steal. With Curry on the shelf, Jerry Porter serves as the lone Raiders receiver worthy of starting. Another under the radar play is Amos Zereoue as Tyrone Wheatley will sit and watch with an injury.

San Diego Chargers

Buzz: It took a while to make true believers out of the Chargers, but they are legit contenders and their win over the Broncos last week proves that. The breeze has lifted them to the top of the AFC West as Drew Brees has played near flawless football. Antonio Gates and Keenan McCardell have risen as his main two targets while LaDainian Tomlinson continues to be his steady dominating self.
