Another pair of eligible underclassmen look as though they may make the jump to the next level. And those who've been with us a while know how high we are on both these prospects.
'Ole Miss center/guard Chris Spencer is close to announcing his eligibility for the NFL Draft. In fact many in Oxford feel with the recent coaching change and potential Spencer offers for the next level it is basically a done deal. A red-shirt junior, Spencer did an outstanding job holding down the center spot this season, his third year as a starter. Combining great explosion, quickness and technique, he could easily be the second center selected next April and the first Rebel linemen off the board. 'Ole Miss has three potential first day picks on the offensive line with Marcus Johnson, Doug Buckles and now seemingly Chris Spencer.
In Blacksburg word is cornerback/safety Jimmy Williams is leaning more towards entering the draft rather then returning to college. A tremendous athlete with excellent size/speed numbers, Williams did an admirable job after being moved to cornerback as a replacement for DeAngelo Hall this season after Hall left early for the draft last April. Yet it was his play at the safety position as a sophomore which has scouts drooling as the big defensive back was an enforcer in centerfield against both the run and pass. Williams presently grades out as possibly the second or third defensive back selected in round one.
