Channing Crowder, the underclassmen linebacker from Florida who entered the draft, hung around practice in the middle of the week. While scouts took a liking to him it was Crowder's lack of size that really stood out and the phrase, "man, he's smaller than I thought" was a common reference to him the rest of the week.
One Giant scout on the clubhouse mood for Big Blue; "Tom (Coughlin) has a lot of rules that players must abide by and a lot of the veterans do not like it. The fact the team is not winning makes the situation even tougher to take for many of them."
Khalif Barnes keeps getting rave reviews. Buffalo Bills offensive line coach Jim McNally said Barnes was the most impressive lineman during the week as he sat and watched the big tackle practice with head coach Mike Mularky. Kansas City scouts also agree and Barnes is now their top offensive tackle prospect. The team also came away very impressed with Oregon guard Adam Snyder.
Speaking of the Chiefs, they were very candid about their draft plans yesterday. Kansas City will look for a player in the defensive back seven. They are keying on an area and a player.
The hope is to get a complete cornerback, one that can be used in press coverage, zone or even backed off the line of scrimmage. Obviously, they would love to have either Antrel Rolle or Adam "Pac Man" Jones, whom their scout termed a "special guy who plays bigger than his size".
Linebacker is also a priority and the player they covet is Derrick Johnson. Kansas City is in love with his athleticism and ability to be used in the middle or on the outside.
Whomever it turns out to be, the team will not reach and will place a high priority on value throughout the draft.
The Packers were gushing on a prospect not in attendance at the Senior Bowl. Connecticut's Tyler King, one of the few Husky seniors that did not receive an invite down to mobile, was termed "the Ultimate Warrior" by director of college scouting John Dorsey.
