James Kinney School: Missouri
Ht: 6-0 Wt: 240 40: 4.55 Year: 5Sr
Bio: Three-year starter who has won varying
degrees of All-Conference honors as well as
being the team's captain since his sophomore
campaign. Led the squad in tackles last season
posting 112/5/1. Totaled 147/7/1 as a junior after
career numbers of 148/11/6 the prior year.
Athletic defender with solid size/speed numbers.
Quick filling gaps up the field, fast moving laterally
and strings plays out to the flanks. Quick
diagnosing the action, takes good angles to
the play, and effective in run defense. Remains
disciplined in pass coverage and always willing
to throw his pad into the action. Effective in
Negatives: Short and engulfed at the point
or slow shedding blocks once engaged. Best
up in the box and rarely makes plays in reverse.
Analysis: At face value, Kinney looks to have
the abilities and intangibles to develop into a
solid weak-side linebacker at the next level. Yet
the inability to disengage from blocks as well as
make plays in reverse leads one to believe he's
better on the inside for a 34 defense where he
can cleanly flow to the ball carrier. Should add
depth at the next level and be productive on
