Prospect Profile: Mike OBrien

Mike O'Brien School: Illinois
Ht: 6-5.5 Wt: 225 40: 4.71 Year: 5Sr

Bio: Three-year starter who posted 34 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss as a senior. Totaled career numbers of 51/11/3 as a junior in 2002.

Positives: Injury-prone yet athletic pass rusher who shows skill off the edge. Plays with leverage, balance, and gets off the ball with a quick first step. Immediately locates the ball and makes plays laterally up and down the line of scrimmage. Works his hands to get off blocks and gives good effort.

Negatives: Undersized, not strong at the point of attack, and easily controlled by opposing tight ends. Durability issues plagued him throughout his college career.

Analysis: A collegiate defensive end with good size/speed numbers, O'Brien consistently displays the skill to make plays behind the line of scrimmage or in the box. Has potential standing up over tackle as a rush linebacker in a 34 defense, yet must prove he can stay healthy and on the field to have any real chance of making it in the NFL.
