Prospect Profile: Maurice Clarett

Maurice Clarett School: x-Ohio State
Ht: 5-11.5 Wt: 234 40: 4.88 Year: 3So

Bio: Helped lead Ohio State to a national title as a true freshman in 2002, when he posted 222/ 1,237/16 on the ground and caught 12/104/2. Challenged the NFL's draft eligibility requirements last year and had his motion denied by the Supreme Court.

Positives: Nice-sized runner with impressive strength, balance and ball-handling skills. Quickly gets through the open space on the field. Sets up defenders and makes them miss or runs over opponents, carrying the pile for several yards. Displays a burst through the hole and runs with authority.

Negatives: Had durability issues in college. Marginal blocking skills. Occasionally does too much east/west running. Cannot run to daylight in the open field and does not show speed on film. Has not played football since January of 2003 and performed terribly at the combine.

Analysis: A physically gifted prospect who has made many a poor choice, Clarett has several issues that must be resolved before a team considers expending a draft choice on him. a dominant running back at the top of his game.
