Josh McCowan       Sam Houston St    6-3.5/221/4.62      4Sr

STATS & BIO: Former SMU quarterback that transferred to SHSU in 2001 and became the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year when his passing numbers were 61.6%/2,884/29/8.  Completed 51%/1,969/9/16 as a junior at SMU in '00 after 53.5%/1,434/10/11 his sophomore campaign.

THE GOOD:  Nice sized pocket passer with the arm strength to play at the next level.  Solid footwork setting up in the pocket, has a quick release and very accurate when he throws over his top foot, following through on his passes.  Relatively mobile, gets outside the pocket and makes throws on the move.  Goes through his receiver progressions, leads wide outs with his passes and passes have nice zip.

THE BAD:  Lacks patience and poise in the pocket, does not buy time for his receivers nor does he react well when being pressured.  Rushes, makes questionable decisions and forces the ball into coverage relying on arm strength rather then sound football intangibles.  Not always willing to stand in against the rush, throws off his back foot and gives away his targets.  Shows flashes but not much consistency.

THE SKINNY: Did a good job at the Senior Bowl and capitalized with an even better session at the combine.  Raw physical skills alone make him a nice developmental prospect but he must refine the details of his position and if he is going to make it at the next level.  May have moved himself into the first day based on his exploits since January.  Mid-Third Round.
