NFL Fantasy Stars - Week 3

The third week of the NFL season featured some great NFL match-ups and resulted in several fantastic games. We reveal the top fantasy performers from week number three.

QUARTERBACKS

Drew Bledsoe passed for over 300 yards for the first time in two years as he led the Cowboys over the 49ers with a late 4th quarter rally. Daunte Culpepper showed the Saints' defense he didn't forget how to play football with 300 yards and three TDs. Marc Bulger had almost identical numbers to C-pepp as the Rams narrowly defeated the Titans in St. Louis. Carolina's Jake Delhomme hooked up with Steve Smith to complete eleven passes for three touchdowns, but was otherwise flat against the Dolphins in a letdown game in Miami. Tim Rattay had three TDs in a valiant effort against the Cowboys, but the Niners choked away a twelve point 4th quarter lead to lose by three. Carson Palmer was still able to throw three touchdowns against a solid Bears' defense. Eli Manning's fantasy stats of 352 yards and two TDs look more impressive than did his 24 for 41 effort as the Giants lost a shootout to the Chargers. Kerry Collins played a similar game to Eli as the Eagles contained Randy Moss for a late Philly victory.

RUNNING BACKS

Rarely do fantasy football owners lose a game when one of their players scores four TDs in a single week. This was the case for both LaDainian Tomlinson and Shaun Alexander...arguably the two best fantasy performers in the game. Brian Westbrook put up over 200 yards and two scores to help nudge the Eagles over the Raiders. Julius Jones again showed his effective versatility for the Cowboys with over 30 touches for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Corey Dillon was solid as ever for the Pats as he pounded the ball for New England's only two touchdowns in a huge win for the Superbowl champs on the road at Pittsburgh. Rookies Ronnie Brown and Carnell "Cadillac" Williams both had around 150 yards from scrimmage and proved huge for their teams in narrow victories. Willis McGahee got his yards and a score in week three, but was not enough for the Bills against Atlanta. The Indianapolis Colts are winning with defense and Edgerrin James' ground game as defenses try to shut down Manning and his receivers. As predicted, Bears' stud running back Thomas Jones again ran for over 100 and a score and was enough to keep Cedric Benson out of the game. Mike Anderson and Fred Taylor both had a touchdown and 98 yards rushing in leading their teams to victories, but Anderson was able to do it with 17 less carries.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Steve Smith paid off huge for fantasy owners with eleven catches for 170 yards and three TDs, but was not enough for the Panthers in their loss to Miami. Brandon Lloyd and Hines Ward also contributed big as fantasy producers, but suffered the same fate as Smith with late 4th quarter losses. Torry Holt proved again he is the man in St. Louis with a whopping 163 yards and a score. Keenan McCardell caught one of his two touchdown grabs from running back LaDaininan Tomlinson. Chad Johnson, Travis Taylor, and Joey Galloway all had two-touchdown games to lead their respective teams to victories.

TIGHT ENDS

Antonio Gates plays like a top wide receiver and is the best fantasy tight end in football...period. Drew Bledsoe found Jason Witten six times for 85 yards and a score. Ernie Conwell caught three of Aaron Brooks' twelve completions for the Saints in their losing effort. Jeremy Shockey and Courtney Anderson both surpassed the century mark in yards, but weren't enough to help their teams to victories.
