SCOUTING REPORT- Joseph Jefferson/Western Kentuck

Joseph Jefferson      Western Kentucky     5-11.5|205|4.35     4Sr

STATS & BIO: Four year starter used at both cornerback and safety.  All-Conference selection as a senior totaling 61/1/7 on defense, while averaging 11/248/22.5 on kick returns and 26/16.9/1 returning punts.  Second team All-League choice as a junior when his defensive numbers were 64/6/15 with 19/11.3/1 on punt returns and 4/31/0 returning kicks.  Impacted as a true freshman at safety totaling 58/1/5.

THE GOOD:  Nice sized athletic corner with a large degree of upside potential to his game.  Smooth transitioning off the line to run with opponents, cognizant of what is happening on the field and quick locating the ball when it's in the air.  Displays a good break on the pass, works hard and gets a hand in deflect away the ball.  Top ball skills, does not make mental mistakes and rarely gets beat.  Effective as a return specialist and consistently impacts the game.  Defends both screen and running plays, looking to get involved in the action.

THE BAD: A bit stiff in his back pedal, lacks the explosive plant and break on the ball and times faster than he plays.  Stood out in the post season and caught fire with excellent workouts at the Combine.  Needs to refine the rough edges of his game and needs patience but should be starting by his second season in a league, if not sooner.

THE SKINNY:  Went from a middle round choice to a first day pick based on his performances since January.  Early Third Round.
