SCOUTING REPORT- Lito Sheppard/Florida

Lito Sheppard      Florida      5-10|194|4.43      3Jr

STATS & BIO:  Third year junior that impacts the game as both a cornerback and return specialist.  Defensive numbers were 42/2/6 last season, while averaging 26/9.5/0 returning punts and 7/24/0 on kick returns.  All-Conference selection as a sophomore when he totaled 40/6/14 defensively and averaged 22/14.0/2 returning punts and 13/22.9/0 on kick returns.  Reserve player his freshman campaign and used at receiver sparingly throughout his career.

THE GOOD: Big play prospect that likes to take chances.  Quick and fluid backpedaling off the line, smooth turning in his hips to run with opponents and fast moving down the flanks.  Cognizant of what is happening on the field, quick to read or anticipate the action and immediately turns back to the ball making plays against the pass.  Displays an excellent move on the throw as well as closing speed, has solid ball skills and opposing quarterbacks purposely throw away from him.  Takes a lot of chances as a return specialist and consistently breaks a long one if given a small amount of open space.

THE BAD:  Sure-handed tackler when he gives effort but not overly aggressive.  Likes to gamble and play the ball rather than the man, falls asleep on occasion and rather easily gives up the inside to opponents.  Gets out-muscled or out-positioned by larger receivers though he would not be classified as a "small corner".

THE SKINNY:  Quality cover-corner at the next level if he learns to play a more disciplined brand of football and picks up the physical nature of his game.  Late First Round.
