NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jason Avant

The Michigan Wolverines always put receivers into the early reaches of April's draft. This year it was Braylon Edwards who was tabbed by the Cleveland Browns with the third pick. Jason Avant won't be selected that early yet he clearly stands as one of the most undervalued pass catchers moving towards April '06.

Full Name: Jason Avant      School: Michigan

Ht: 6-1      Wt: 210       40: 4.43      Yr: 4Sr

Pos: Nice sized possession wide out and solid red zone\third down target. Extends or gets vertical to grab the throw from the air, displaying good eye\hand coordination. Effectively uses the sidelines looking the pass into his hands. Adjusts to the errant throw and quick transitioning from making the reception to running after the catch. Tough and always working to make positive plays.

Neg: Lacks quickness into routes. Not a wide out who can run to daylight. Gets marginal results as a blocker.

Analysis: A prospect becoming the "go-to guy" in Michigan's offense, Avant has terrific upside for the next level. Nicely fits into the middle portion of the draft's first day. A productive second wide out at the next level.
