Underclassmen Update: 12/9

With time off to think about the future, even more underclassmen are pondering their next move. Here's an update on information posted earlier this week along with a few surprises.

The feeling presently in Madison is Brian Calhoun could be leaning towards entering the draft at this point.  Calhoun is struggling to determine how much higher his stock will rise should he return for his senior campaign.

Should Calhoun enter the draft it could be a mistake for the Wisconsin ball carrier.   The strength at the running back position next April will automatically push him deep into the first day.

Our friends at Bucknuts.com alert us that Ohio State safety Donte Whitner could be the third Buckeye junior to take off for the NFL.  Coming off a terrific campaign, Whitner totaled 64 tackles with two picks.

Bucknuts.com considers Whitner the third best defender on the Ohio State defense after A.J. Hawk and Bobby Carpenter.

When previewing Central Michigan's top NFL prospects last September, one Chippewa player we highlighted was defensive end Daniel Bazuin.  After being named MAC Defensive Player of the Year, Bazuin is seriously considering the draft.  Sources have told us it is almost 75% he'll jump to the next level.  Posting 74 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss and 16 sacks, Bazuin is a defender who makes a lot of plays up the field and could slide into the draft's first day.

One surprise name seriously considering making the jump is BYU tackle Jake Kuresa.   Several inquiries were made to us about Kuresa as far back as October.  A three year starter, Kuresa is a nice sized lineman who needs a lot of work.
