Prospect Profile: Kellen Clemens

Prospect profile of University of Oregon quarterback Kellen Clemens, who was selected by the New York Jets in the second round of last April's draft. Started eight games as a senior before fracturing his ankle.

Full Name: Kellen Clemens School: Oregon Pos: QB

Ht: 6-1.5 Wt: 224 40: 4.94 Year: 5Sr

Bio: Three-year starter who totaled 64%/2,406/19/4 in eight games last season before fracturing his ankle. Junior numbers included 59.9%/2,548/22/10.

Pos: High-percentage thrower who is best in the short passing game. Sells ball fakes, and displays an excellent sense of timing. Knows where his receivers are on the field and hits targets as they leave breaks. Finds the safety, displays excellent pocket awareness and very accurate in the short field. Does not wilt under pressure or make poor choices.

Neg: Cannot drive passes down the field nor zip intermediate throws. Stares down primary targets. Cannot elude the rush.

Analysis: Benefiting from a system implemented by coordinator Gary Crowton last season, Clemens took his game to another level before the injury. A solid choice in the middle rounds for a West Coast offensive squad.
