Prior to the draft we were led to believe that Matt Leinart was the player Oakland desired most. So it was a mild surprise when the team selected Michael Huff, bypassing the USC signal caller. While Huff was the best player available we have issues with the pick. Foremost the fact Oakland has selected a defensive back with their first choice in five of the past six drafts. Eventually this will come back to haunt them. Thomas Howard was excellent value in round two and should quickly move into a starting role. Paul McQuistan was a reach in round three and a surprise selection considering the team may move Robert Gallery to the left tackle spot. Darnell Bing was good value in round four and may be tried at linebacker. The next two selections were both reaches while Kevin McMahan, Mr. Irrelevant for '06, was a good selection with the draft's final pick and has a real shot of making the practice squad.
