NFL Draft '07: Scouting Kansas State

After years under the guidance of Bill Snyder the Kansas State Wildcats now move in another direction. The program has struggled on the field and in NFL war rooms recently. Neither situation is likely to be immediately corrected.

The one player on the Kansas State roster that could impact next April's draft is Thomas Clayton, the Florida State transfer. An explosive running back with terrific size and speed, Clayton is an explosive ball carrier who runs to daylight in the open field. Needing to round out his game Clayton must be less one-dimensional but offers a good degree of upside potential. Senior receiver Yamon Figurs has flashed ability the past two seasons and offers potential as a fifth receiver and return specialist. Junior guard John Hafferty is a hard-working short area blocker who holds the point and turns defenders off the line. Offering size and upside, he must be watched the next two years.

After a terrific sophomore season outside linebacker Brandon Archer did not take his game to the next level as many expected last season. A solid athlete who plays with explosion, Archer covers a lot of area. Undersized, he is more a "chase and rundown" linebacker best on the weak side. Maurice Mack is another smallish middle-line defender who could garner consideration at safety in the NFL.
