NFL Draft '07: Scouting Florida State

After a three game losing streak late in the season, the Seminoles surprised everyone by winning the ACC title. Florida State placed four defensive players into the draft's first round last April. It is unlikely a single Seminole will break into the initial 32 picks next year.

Were there one player on offense who could broach round one it would be running back Lorenzo Booker.  Taking over as the Noles feature ball carrier this season, Booker has tremendous speed with the ability to switch it on and run away from defenders.  An instinctive ball carrier, Booker is elusive and loses little momentum changing direction.  Also a good receiver out of the backfield, he nicely projects as a multipurpose ball handler in the NFL.  The team has a trio of receivers to watch, all offering a variety of skills.  Senior Chris Davis is a reliable wide out who flashes speed and the ability to get behind the secondary.  He possesses sure hands and is a solid blocker, which will help him get consideration in the late rounds.  Junior De'Cody Fagg is a king sized wide out who must pick up the consistency of his game.  Sophomore Greg Carr is another pass catcher with excellent size and one of the better red zone targets in the nation.  Consistently over-matching defenders, Carr projects as a possession receiver at the next level.  Mario Henderson moves into the starting position at left tackle and the big blocker must be watched.  Strong at the point, he shows better than average footwork.  Henderson must turn up his game and play at a consistent high level to get draft consideration but does offer good upside.  Senior tight end Donnie Carter is a solid athlete with adequate pass catching hands and blocking abilities for the next level.

On defense the top senior prospect is linebacker Buster Davis.  Explosive, Davis is a solid athlete who makes plays sideline-to-sideline, covering a lot of area on the field.  Used at both middle linebacker and on the outside, Davis has size limitations which will push him into the late rounds.  Defensive backs Tony Carter and J.R. Bryant are a pair of talented underclassmen who must be watched. Andre Fluellen is another talented junior at defensive end who should improve with increased action this season.  At one time a highly rated prospect, defensive tackle Clifton Dickson was academically ineligible during the 2005 season and is no longer with the program.
