NFL Draft '07: Scouting UCLA

With their top skill position players moving on to the NFL, the offensive talent for the Bruins is limited. And though slightly better on the other side of the ball, it is very possible UCLA will not have a player drafted until the very late rounds in 2007.

Senior receiver Joe Cowan is a possession receiver with solid hands. Cowan must take his game to another level as a senior to get late round consideration. Junior Taylor returns after knee surgery last season and is another possession wide out that will get looks in the late frames if he returns the prior form.

Defensively the top available talent resides on the line. End Justin Hickman is a quick pass rusher who displays speed off the edge and swiftly pursues to the action from the backside. Undersized, Hickman is slow shedding blocks and presently looks like a backup right end for a conventional defense. Tackle Kevin Brown returns after missing all of last season with an ankle injury. Prior to the '05 campaign Brown displayed a lot of quickness and explosion on the inside. He has the ability to be used as a rotational player at the next level. Junior Brigham Harwell was more then adequate filling in at Brown's position last season. He is another explosive yet undersized defensive tackle with ability for the next level.
