NFL Draft '07: Scouting Mississippi State

Year three of the Sylvester Croom era begins in Starkville and a breakout season is desperately needed. Several NFL prospects will be found on the defensive line while the offense may offer a few surprises.

Though stopwatch slow, Bryson Davis is a terrific lead blocker with solid pass catching hands. Nasty, he attacks assignments, turning defenders from the action or holding the point in pass protection. Davis is solid consideration in the closing rounds for a team needing a conventional lead blocker. Omarr Conner moves from quarterback to receiver and the nice-sized athlete will get late round looks if he displays consistent hands.

The top pro-prospect on the roster could well-be defensive tackle Deljuan Robinson. A hard worker who chases to get involved in the action Robinson is a leverage lineman that quickly gets off the snap and offers a burst of closing speed. More of straight-line player lacking bulk, he has potential for a system which rotates the front four. Antonio Johnson is a solid athlete with better size and a defensive tackle effective defending the run or rushing the passer. While he potentially holds more upside than his teammate Johnson must polish his game. Michael Heard is a short yet tough pass rusher who also displays ability dropped into space. Possessing terrific first step quickness, Heard will be looked upon as a nickel rusher for the next level.
