NFL Draft '07: Scouting Tennessee

In the rarest of events, Tennessee looks to rebound off a losing season when no bowl invitations were extended. The team offers several early round selections from both sides of the line of scrimmage.

Offensively, lineman Arron Sears is the highest rated senior. A fundamentally sound blocker who could be used at several positions, Sears is a powerful lineman that turns defenders off the ball. Playing left tackle for the Volunteers, Sears has the body type better suited for offensive guard. Regardless of his projected NFL-osition Sears holds top 60 potential. Fullback Cory Anderson is a terrific lead blocker who gives effort until the whistle blows. Marginally productive handling the ball, he is a conventional fullback who will get late round consideration. Bret Smith and Jayson Swain are a pair of senior wide outs with good size and solid hands. Each needs to significantly improve their production this season to get late round consideration. The Volunteers offer a pair of underclassmen skill players to keep an eye on. Running back Arian Foster is a terrific combination of power and speed. Breaking tackles, Foster beats defenders around the corner and can run to daylight in the open field. An excellent receiver out of backfield, he is the total package who will be an early selection in the future. Wide out Robert Meachem has flashed ability catching the ball the past two years. Possessing terrific size Meacham has the ability to stretch defenses but must improve the consistency of his game. Junior quarterback Erik Ainge moves into the starting role after showing a lot of flashes last season.

The defense is led by tackle Justin Harrell, a leverage lineman fluid making plays laterally. Consistently focused on by opponents Harrell offers top 60 potential in next April's draft. Turk McBride is an explosive tackle who fires through the gaps in run defense. Displaying a burst speed McBride is undersized and easily handled at the point of attack. He offers middle round potential for a team needing a three technique lineman or rotational player upfront. Cornerback Jonathan Wade is a developing prospect with outstanding speed. Though he is prone to lapses much is expected of Wade this year and on paper he offers first day potential.
