The Seattle Seahawks destroyed the New York Giants early as Matt Hasselbeck won the game for the Seahawks and his fantasy owners with a 5 TD performance. In a revenge game, it was Carson Palmer on top for the Cincinnati Bengals over rival Pittsburgh Steelers...Palmer threw for 4 TDs in the win (none of which to WR Chad Johnson). Brett Favre didn't throw 51 times like last week, but Brett did complete 25 of 36 for 340 yards and three TDs in a win over the Detroit Lions. With nearly exact positive numbers to Favre, Eli Manning produced for his fantasy owners...but most of Eli's numbers happened late in garbage time (and after a few interceptions) as the Giants scrambled to keep from being embarassed on the final scoreboard. Buffalo Bills' J.P. Losman got it together for over 300 passing yards and a couple of scores. Mike Martz' offense is 0-3 and still isn't really clicking in Detroit, but QB Jon Kitna did throw for 342 yards and 2 TDs against the Packers in the loss. Cleveland Browns' QB Charlie Frye threw for nearly 300 yards and got a couple of scores in a tough last minute loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Donovan McNabb tore it up in the first half against the San Francisco 49ers, but he then fell off in the 2nd half...although he still finished with a respectable 296 yards and threw for 2 TDs in the win.
Brian Westbrook was thought to be dinged up going into week 3 and some fantasy owners made the mistake of benching the versatile running back...Westbrook produced huge with 164 total yards and 3 TDs in the game over the Niners. The much awaited return of Clinton Portis proved a success for the Washington Redskins and Portis' fantasy owners...Portis maximized rushing and receiving yards (for 164) and came away with 2 TDs in the victory. Fast Willie Parker needed to be faster to beat the Bengals, but Willie was likely fast enough for his fantasy owners with a whopping 146 total yards and 2 TDs. When Portis wasn't scampering for the Redskins, it was Ladell Betts...Betts had nearly the exact same touches and total yards (151), but Betts had one less score. A live look at diminutive RB Maurice Jones-Drew at the RCA dome on Sunday had me convinced the back was much smaller than his listed 5'7"...but Jones-Drew wasn't about to let his size hold him back - in fact, it seemed to help him...the Jax back picked his holes carefully and danced his way to 135 total yards and a TD (very impressive). Ahman Green (GB) and Kevin Jones (Det) faced each other on Sunday and both compiled nice receiving yards to their rushing totals to finish with around 130 total yards and a TD apiece. Edgerrin James looked solid in his effort against the Rams with nearly 100 total yards and a TD. Willis McGahee averaged nearly 6 ypc for a total of 150 yards against the New York Jets. Michael Robinson (who?) of the Niners scored a couple of goal-line touchdowns against the Eagles and may be called on more in the future due to Frank Gore's increasing propensity to fumble (and there is no way anyone had Robinson on their roster before he showed up on Sunday). Many Tatum Bell owners are relieved after seeing him get most of the touches in Denver...Bell had 142 total yards on the night on 29 touches. Steven Jackson and Ronnie Brown each had 100 total yards or more in winning efforts for their respective teams.
Top Denver wide receiver Javon Walker finally busted out on Sunday night...Walker gained 130 yards on 3 grabs - two of them for TDs. Keyshawn Johnson made the most of his day against his former team (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and caught 7 for 97 yards and a score...Keyshawn also ran for a touchdown in the win. T.J. Houshmandzadeh went off against the Steelers with 9 grabs for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Chad Johnson (1 catch for 11 yards) played decoy for Houshmanzilli and fellow WR Chris Henry in the game at Pittsburgh...Henry matched T.J.'s 2 TDs and gained 69 yards in receptions. Darrell Jackson caught 2 of Hasselbeck's 5 TDs in Seattle's win over the Giants. Detroit Lions' WR Roy Williams finally got things going with 7 receptions for 138 yards and a score. Torry Holt looked in fine form against the Cardinals...Holt caught 8 balls for 120 yards and a TD. Braylon Edwards did his part with 116 yards and a touchdown in Cleveland's heartbreaking loss to the Baltimore Ravens. WRs Roscoe Parrish (Bills) and Greg Jennings (Packers) aren't exactly household names and aren't on many fantasy rosters, but each went for 100+ receiving yards and a TD. Andre Johnson didn't get into the endzone for the Houston Texans, but his receptions (11) and yards (152) were just silly. Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin, Muhsin Muhammad, Steve Smith, Lee Evans, and Reggie Brown all had nice reception totals and well over 100 yards on the day, but none were able to find the endzone.
Eric Johnson was a big target in San Fran's attempt against the Eagles...Johnson pulled down 7 for 87 and a TD. Tennessee Titans' Bo Scaife caught 3 for over 50 yards and a score in their loss to the Miami Dolphins. Todd Heap had only 30+ yards against the Browns, but still managed to find his way across the goal-line. Kellen Winslow Jr. continues to force his way to the front of Cleveland's passing game...Winslow caught 7 for 92 yards in the loss to the Ravens. Dallas Clark and Will Heller (who?) each caught a TD in wins for Indy and Seattle. Alex Smith and Ben Watson were both active with several receptions and around 70 yards each, but neither scored.
News and Notes - The Chicago Bears are still looking fine and moved to a 3-0 mark, but their real test may be this coming weekend on SNF against the 3-0 Seattle Seahawks...Speaking of the Seahawks, things may get much easier after the Bears' game with a bye in week 5 and lesser competition to follow...Shaun Alexander is hopeful to be back in 3-4 weeks after it was revealed he suffered a broken bone in his foot - Maurice Morris (Mo-Mo) to start in his absence...Veteran Mark Brunell set an NFL record with his first 22 straight completions against the Texans...Tampa Bay quarterback had a physically rough game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday that resulted in surgery to remove his spleen on Sunday evening - Simms is still in serious condition and will be out indefinitely...On a positive note, the city of New Orleans continues to recover and now celebrates the city's storybook home win over the Atlanta Falcons on MNF
