Cowboys Defeat Oakland, 20-6

The Cowboys looked sharp during their first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders Friday evening at Texas Stadium. Quincy Carter completed 10-of-13 passes for almost 100 yards and a touchdown to help the Boys to a 20-6 win. Here are some of the highlights.

Quarterback Quincy Carter led Dallas to scores on its first three possessions as the Cowboys beat the Raiders 20-6 Friday evening at Texas Stadium.

"Quincy made plays with his arm and his feet. That is how he plays," Cowboys coach Dave Campo said. "It's hard to see that in practice, but in a game you can see the danger he poses for the defense. Carter played the entire first half, completing 10 of 13 passes for 96 yards and one touchdown and also rushing two times for 24 yards.

Rich Gannon played only one series, going 4-of-6 for 52 yards to set up Sebastian Janikowski's 29-yard field goal with 3:46 left in the first quarter. Raiders' head coach Tim Callahan removed most of his starters after that series, and from that point on, the Raiders moved the ball but repeatedly hurt themselves with penalties.

Chad Hutchinson looked decent in the second half, completing 5-of-11 for 59 yards, but it was obvious that the former pitcher was a little rusty. He ended a brilliant drive in the redzone by throwing an interception to Raiders rookie cornerback Phillip Buchanon.

"I let my instincts take over," Buchanon would say later. "I knew the ball was coming over to my side and when I looked up, the ball was right there."

"I thought Chad was fine," Dave Campo said. "He did not have as good a supporting cast (as Carter). He needs as much work as he can get." The Cowboys received a scare when CB Bryant Westbrook hobbled off the field with 9 seconds left in the 2nd quarter after defending a pass. Westbrook, recovering from a ruptured left Achilles' tendon, only bruised his right knee and is listed as day-to-day.

The Cowboys next preseason game is Saturday, August 17th at Carolina.
