Mr. Fantasy Gamble (ala. QB Michael Vick) paid off for his fantasy owners who started him in week 7...Vick paid off in nearly every way possible with 4 passing TDs, 40 rushing yards, and a TD reception in the Atlanta Falcons OT win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Peyton Manning was nearly broken in half on two separate occasions, but the rough play seemed to harden Manning's poise and helped lead him to 4 TDs on 342 yards in a win over the Washington Redskins. Donovan McNabb may not have played his best game of the season in the Eagles loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (on a 62 yard field goal!), but McNabb's fantasy stats were plentiful with his 300+ yard - 3 TD effort. Detroit Lions QB Jon Kitna keeps improving in Mike Martz' offense, but is getting few wins...Kitna threw for 3 TDs on 269 yards in the loss to the New York Jets. Big Ben Roethlisberger was knocked out of the game against the Falcons, but not before he piled up 3 TDs on a 16 for 22 passing effort. Joey Harrington barely completed half of his 62 attempts on Sunday, but his 33 completions and 414 yards / 2 TDs helped his fantasy owners...his inteceptions didn't help the Dolphins.
*Vick added 40 rushing yards on 5 carries
**McNabb added 76 rushing yards on 6 carries
Stud RB Larry Johnson made the strength of the San Diego Charger defense appear as a myth...LJ busted for 161 total yards and 2 TDs in the win over San Diego. Eagle RB Brian Westbrook is a must start every time he plays...the only question is whether gets the bulk of his yardage from the passing or running game - this week it was a fairly evenly distributed 214 yards with a TD. Jet RB Leon Washington got this week's nod and made the most of it with 129 rushing yards and a couple of touchdowns in the win over the Lions. Minnesota Viking RB Chester Taylor got it going with 169 rushing yards and 4 receptions in the passing game...plus a TD. Kevin Jones did his part with 143 total yards and a TD in the loss to the Jets. Like Jones, LaDainian Tomlinson balanced his attack with excellent total yardage (138) and a TD...but his team was beaten by the Chiefs in the final tally. The Denver Broncos rode Tatum Bell most of the afternoon and gave him 27 touches for 126 yards and a TD in the win over the Cleveland Browns. Ahman Green was healthy enough to play for the Green Bay Packers...his TD and 118 rushing yards were also enough for the Pack to get the win. The Houston Texans surprised the Jacksonville Jaguars with a dominant win...thanks partly to the effort of RB Wali Lundy. New England Patriot veteran Corey Dillon busted out 2 early TDs in the win over the Buffalo Bills. Broken record here - Tiki Barber had another week of BIG yardage (146), and was again without a score. RBs Rudi Johnson, Joseph Addai, and Fred Taylor all had nearly identical 100+ total yardage efforts...but none were able to scamper across the goalline.
Our "baker's dozen" of top fantasy wide receivers for week 7 caught nearly 100 balls collectively...wow! Big Ben threw all three touchdowns and 171 of his passing yards to top possession receiver Hines Ward...but the Steelers still lost a tough OT game to the Falcons. In similar fashion, it was Darrell Jackson who shined for the Seattle Seahawks - but the DJax effort wasn't enough of a spark to get the Hawks on track in the rough home loss to the Vikes. Peyton found Marvin Harrison in the endzone on two occasions for the win over the Skins. Oakland Raiders WR Randy Moss went over 100 yards for the first time this season...and added a score in the surprising win over the Arizona Cardinals. Bookend Colt receiver Reggie Wayne caught 7 for 122 yards and a TD in the win over Washington. Marty Booker also caught 7 for 100+ and a TD in the Dolphins loss to the Pack. Detroit WR Mike Furrey caught the bulk of Kitna's passes (9) for 109 yards and a TD in a losing effort. Andre Johnson leads the league in receptions (47) and yardage (591)...Andre padded his stats against the Jags with another 8 grabs and 106 yards (plus a TD). Terrell Owens caught 6 balls from Drew Bledsoe/Tony Romo for 98 yards and a score in the MNF loss to the Giants. Plaxico Burress (Mr. Big Play) had 2 huge catches for 94 yards and a score in the MNF win. Donald Driver caught 10 balls (one for a TD) in the win over the Miami Dolphins on the road. Steve Smith and Javon Walker both busted out nice games for the Panthers and Broncos, but neither made it in the endzone.
Two tight ends caught 6 balls for over 100 yards in week 7. Alge Crumpler put up 117 yards on his 6 grabs, and half went for TDs...Crumpler was a huge fantasy play for those fortunate enough to have started him. Tony Gonzalez maximized his yardage with 138, but was not able to score. Antonio Gates was again the prime target for yound QB Philip Rivers...Gates caught 9 for 63 yards and a score. Chris Cooley was one of the few bright spots for the Washington Redskins their game in Indy...Cooley had a TD and a 2-point conversion in the loss. Dallas Clark had a TD and 41 yards in the same game. Reggie Kelly and David Martin aren't likely to be on fantasy radars, but each had 30+ yards and a TD. Randy McMichael caught 7 for 77, but was unable to score for Miami. Jason Witten made some nice catches on MNF for 72 yards, but couldn't find the endzone in the loss to the Giants.
*Chris Cooley added a 2 pt. conversion to his total
News and Notes - Ben Roethlisberger was knocked from Sunday's game with a concussion and is listed as questionable to play in week 8...The undefeated Indianapolis Colts likely lost defensive players Mike Doss (knee) and Montae Reagor (carr accident on the way to the game) for the season...Matt Hasselbeck was knocked from the game against the Vikings on a questionable hit and will likely miss at least 3 games...QB Trent Green is cleared to practice, but may not play until at least week 10...Drew Bledsoe was pulled at halftime of the MNF game in favor of Tony Romo - Romo threw 3 INTs in the 2nd half...Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant kicked a 62 yard field goal to win the game against the Eagles - the 3rd longest field goal in NFL history...While Chicago and Indianapolis reamin undefeated, the Oakland Raiders got their win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday - leaving no other teams without a win through 7 weeks...Adding to the list of banged up QBs, Byron Leftwich has an ankle which is keeping him completely limited and possibly out of week 8
