Drew Brees' arm has elevated the New Orleans Saints to a mid-season record thought not to be possible and Brees' throws have boosted previously unknown WR Marques Colston to the top fantasy wide receiver through the first half of the season. In week 9, Cool Brees threw for 3 TDs and over 300 yards in the win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jake Plummer has finally gotten on track and threw for 3 TDs (2 of them to WR Javon Walker) to likely knock the Pittsburgh Steelers from playoff contention. David Garrard filled in nicely for Byron Leftwich and threw 3 TDs to secure his starting quarterback position for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kansas City Chiefs replacement rookie QB Damon Huard is playing so well that injured starter Trent Green may have lost his starting job upon his return from injury...Huard threw for 3 TDs on Sunday in the win over the St. Louis Rams. Joey Harrington's 3 TDs were too much for the Chicago Bears. Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning showed the nation why he's the best quarterback in football...Manning threw for 326 yards and 2 TDs in the win over the New England Patriots on SNF. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo played well enough to win against the Washington Redskins in week 9, but the Boys special teams allowed the winning FG to be blocked...resulting in an eventual loss. Ben Roethlisberger threw for a whopping 433 yards (with 54 total tosses), but most were in desperation as the Steelers tried to come back on the Broncos...to no avail. Marc Bulger racked up 354 yards and a TD in a home loss to the Chiefs. Detroit Lions QB Jon Kitna continues to pile up numbers in Mike Martz' offense...he also chalked up a surprising win in week 9 over the Atlanta Falcons.
LaDainian Tomlinson continued his torrid pace with 196 total yards and 3 TDs in the San Diego Chargers win over the Cleveland Browns...LT2 leads all NFL running backs with 1151 total yards and 15 total TDs (one of those a pass). Steven Jackson added another 219 total yards (4th overall with over 1103 for the season) and a TD for his fantasy owners in week 9. Kevin Jones is quickly becoming a fantasy stud in Detroit with Mike Martz in control...Jones utilized his versatility and gained 140 total yards and 2 TDs in the Lions win over the Falcons. Fast Willie Parker went for 137 total yards and 2 TDs in a losing effort to the Broncos. KC's Larry Johnson rushed for 172 yards and a TD over the Rams. Tiki Barber got his first TD on the season and added 155 yards to his overall total. Ronnie Brown got it going against the toughest defense in years...Brown gained a total of 190 yards on the Chicago Bears, but was held without a score. Corey Dillon was held to minimal yardage, but his 2 TDs put smiles on the faces of his fantasy owners. Anthony Thomas (A-Train) was resurrected after an injury to Willis McGahee...Thomas busted over 100 yards and a score for the Bills in a home win over the Green Bay Packers. Washington's Clinton Portis had a very solid game against the Dallas Cowboys...Portis went for 93 total yards and a TD in the last minute win. Jamal Lewis and Rudi Johnson each had around 80 yards and a score. Chester Taylor, Maurice Morris, and Ahman Green all had over 130 or more yards in week 9, but none were able to cross the goalline.
Jake the Snake finally got it going the past couple of weeks and WR Javon Walker has been the benefactor. Walker went for 134 receiving yards (2 for TDs)...AND he ran a 72 yard scamper for a TD as the Broncos put a fork in the Pittsburgh Steelers! Marvin Harrison grabbed 8 for 145 and 2 TDs on SNF against the Pats. Devery Henderson had only 3 catches, but 2 were for touchdowns. Joey Galloway had a nice game in Tampa Bay...Galloway caught balls for 97 yards and 2 TDs. Detroit's Roy Williams emerged from his bye week to catch 6 for 138 yards and a TD in a win over the Falcons. New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston is the top fantasy wide receiver through 8 games...Colston solidified his spot with 11 grabs for 123 yards and a TD in the win over the Bucs on the road. Ernest Wilford caught 2 of 3 receptions for TDs from replacement quarterback David Garrard. Pack WR Donald Driver was key for the Packers with nearly 100 receiving yards and a TD in week 9. Terrell Owens caught 7 balls (one for a TD) from his new favorite quarterback Tony Romo. Hines Ward had 127 receiving yards, but was unable to get into the endzone agains the stingy Bronco defense.
*Walker added 72 yards on 1 carry - resulting in a TD
Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez had 2 TDs in the win over the St. Louis Rams. Jeremy Shockey caught 8 balls (one for a TD) from New York Giants QB Eli Manning in their close win over the Houston Texans. Skins TE Chris Cooley had nearly identical stats to Shockey, but with 5 less grabs. Alge Crumpler added another TD in week 9 to his league leading total for all tight ends. TEs Todd Heap, Kellen Winslow Jr., and Bo Scaife all had big yardage in week 9, but none were able to score.
News and Notes - Ben Roethlisberger and the defending Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers are basically out of playoff contention with their recent home loss to the Denver Broncos...Rex Grossman's lack of discipline (and his poor passing) led to another pathetic showing at the helm of the Chicago Bear offense - which could lead to deja vu for the Bears in the playoffs if Grossman continues his poor decision making (there is a reason the Bears won 10 games under rookie Kyle Orton...Orton didn't throw games away on 1st and 2nd down and Orton did allow the Bear defense to rest with an emphasis on the running game)...The undefeated Indianapolis Colts are well on their way this season and would face the Miami Dolphins at home in week 17 to keep the perfect season...QB Trent Green is getting closer to returning, but head coach Herm Edwards has hedged about Damon Huard relinquishing his position at QB...Shaun Alexander is not expected to play in week 10 and is likely questionable for week 11...WRs Donte Stallworth and Larry Fitzgerald may finally play in week 10 after sitting out several weeks
