NFL Free Agent Workout Notes-11/17

This time of the NFL season, you might not expect to see many names of note getting workouts. However, there seem to be some quality free agents that have received tryouts recently.

Atlanta Falcons - The has worked out 15 defensive backs since the season began and including veteran S Lance Schulters who was cut last week then re-signed earlier this week. Also working out of note were CB Ray Mickens and S Michael Stone.

Baltimore Ravens
- Because of the back injury to MLB Ray Lewis, the team worked out free agent LBs Jimmy Cottrell, Jamar Enzor, and Tim Goodwell. Cottrell was cut by the team prior to the start of the regular season. Cottrell was signed to the practice squad earlier this week.

Denver Broncos
- Despite having seemingly good depth at the position, the team worked out free agent TEs Eric Edwards, Aaron Halterman, Paul Irons, and Teyo Johnson recently. With the deactivation of rookie TE Tony Schleffler last week, that could be a sign that the team isn't quite as satisfied with his performance.

Also trying out of note recently was free agent OT Jacob Rogers who was a former second-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys.

Detroit Lions
- Before re-signed WR Corey Bradford on Thursday, the team worked out WR/KR Edell Shepherd on Tuesday who was released by Tampa Bay recently.

Houston Texans
- Maybe to light a fire under struggling K Kris Brown, the team worked out free agent Ks Martin Gramatica, Todd France, and E.J. Cochrane on Tuesday.

Gramatica had a few stints with the Indianapolis Colts earlier this season when K Adam Vinatieri was injured. France did a good job last year when he filled in for injured K David Akers with the Philadelphia Eagles. Cochrane was coming against Akers in this past training camp but was waived.

The team also worked out veteran free agent Ps Tom Rouen and Ken Walter this week.

Jacksonville Jaguars
-To possibly help bolster their shaky group of young receivers, the team worked out of note free agent WRs Kevin McMahan and Craphonso Thorpe.

McMahan was a 2006 sixth-round pick of the Oakland Raiders. Thorpe was a 2005 fourth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Earlier this week, they worked out free agent Ps Andy Groom, Tom Rouen, and Ken Walter.

Miami Dolphins
- The team recently worked of note free agent QBs J.T. O'Sullivan and Cody Pickett.

O'Sullivan, a former 2002 sixth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints, has been with four teams in the last four seasons. He was once seen as a high upside signal caller.

They also worked out of note free agent WRs Randy Hymes and Darius Watts. Both have had at least a half dozen tryouts each since the start of the season.

New York Giants
-Due to the injuries at receiver, the team worked out free agents Marc Boerigter and David Boston this past Tuesday. Free agent WR Peter Warrick visited the team on Monday.

Due to the loss of OLT Luke Petitgout for the rest of the regular season, the team worked out free agent OTs Jon Dunn, Qasim Mitchell, Jeremy Parquet, and Sam Wilder. Parquet had several workouts for various teams since the regular season started.

New York Jets
-The team has worked out free agent DT Keyonta Marshall, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles, twice recently but passed on signing him.

Seattle Seahawks
-Because of the foot injury to backup FB Josh Parry, the team worked out free agents Lousaka Polite (later re-signed by the Dallas Cowboys), Alan Ricard, and Troy Fleming.

Ricard and Fleming have extensive starting experience.

Due to the loss of key backup DT Marcus Tubbs, the team tried out free agents of note Darrell Campbell, Jared Clauss, Chad Lavalais, Keyonta Marshall, and Lanston Moore recently.

Perhaps looking for veteran depth at safety, the team worked out free agents John Howell and Idrees Bashir.

Howell spent last season with Seattle and has been mostly a backup in his career. Bashir started for the Indianapolis Colts earlier and was mostly a backup with the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers.

Washington Redskins
-Perhaps looking for depth at linebacker, the team worked out free agents James Davis, Nick Speegle, and Mile Labinjo this past Tuesday.

Davis started close to 20 games in three seasons with the Detroit Lions. Labinjo at one point earlier in his career with the Philadelphia Eagles was thought of highly but has bounced around and has spent time on the rosters of the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts.
