QB Drew Brees absolutely picked apart both the Dallas Cowboys defense and any fantasy opponent he played against (I was one of them)..."Cool" Brees was 26 of 38 for 384 yards with 5 (FIVE) touchdowns in the performance. Marc Bulger didn't look that impressive in the defeat to the Chicago Bears, but 55 pass attempts yielded Bulger fantasy owners 356 yards and 3 TDs. The Seattle Seahawks are happy to have Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander back and playing well, but the output still wasn't enough to get the win against the talented Cardinal team...H-beck threw 3 TDs in Seattle's loss against the Cardinals on Sunday. Eli Manning completed barely half of his passes in the win over the Carolina Panthers in week 14, but Manning made 3 of them count for TDs. For the Panthers, replacement quarterback Chris Weinke threw the ball 61 (SIXTY-ONE) times for 423 yards...but was unable to get the win over the Giants to push the Panthers back to 6-7. Carson Palmer and the Bengals are grooving...Palmer threw for nearly 300 yards and a couple TDs in the win over the Oakland Raiders in week 14. Brett Favre had a very similar numbers to Palmer as Green Bay defeated San Francisco on the road. Philip Rivers looked like a veteran as he led the San Diego Chargers to a conference leading 11-2 record with nearly 300 yards and 2 TDs on Sunday. Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts were played miserably on the road in Jacksonville, but Manning's 300+ passing yards and rushing TD were enough to make our top fantasy QBs for the week.
Maurice Jones-Drew gave Indy an appetizer earlier this season of what he would do to them once he got them home...Jones-Drew and teammates demolished the Colts for nearly 400 rushing yards and a few TDs in the obliteration of the Colts pathetic run D. Minnesota Vikings RB Chester Taylor couldn't go, so Artose Pinner filled in and busted out 3 TDs on 140 total yards...too bad there weren't any fantasy owners taking advantage of Pinner's performance. LaDainian Tomlinson fell all the way down to third in our weekly rankings...but not before he scored 3 TDs (now has 29) and broke the season touchdown record held by Shaun Alexander in 2005. Steven Jackson is a well-rounded bull (well...maybe a Ram) that continues to get yardage and score TDs regardless of his team's record...Jackson went for 139 with a couple TDs against the stout Bears D on MNF. Bengals RB Rudi Johnson had his way with the Oakland Raiders and scored a couple of touchdowns. In the TNF (Thursday Night Football) matchup on the NFL Network, it was Fast Willie Parker who rushed for a whopping 223 yards. Mike Karney (who?) wasn't the only Carney (John - who is a kicker) doing the scoring for the Saints on SNF...Mike Karney came out of nowhere to grab 3 scores in the win. Ron Dayne looked good for Houston and scored a couple TDs with nearly 100 yards (it took Dayne many weeks, but he is finally becoming a factor worth consideration). Travis Henry had nearly identical numbers to Dayne on the other side of the ball for winning Tennessee. Frank Gore had his usual studly performance on Sunday...this time against the Packers for 168 yards and a TD. Sammy Morris and Reggie Bush each had 162 yard - 1 TD games in their winning efforts for Miami and New Orleans, but Bush got most of his yards on receptions. Fred Taylor's 131 rushing yards were a big performance until you compare him to teammate Maruice Jones-Drew. Julius Jones touched the ball 11 times for 126 yards and TD in the loss to the Saints. Ladell Betts is taking the pain away from the Clinton Portis loss for the Redskins...Portis had 171 rushing yards this past weekend against the Eagles. Buffalo Bills RB Willis McGahee had a great game with 125 rushing yards (and a TD) on 16 carries. Edgerrin James finally looked like the RB of old with a nice effort against the Seahawks. Thomas Jones, Ahman Green, and Jamal Lewis each had around 80 rushing yards with a score in week 14. Tatum Bell, Deuce McAllister, Brian Westbrook, Larry Johnson, and Tiki Barber all had well over 100 all-purpose yards, but not of the running backs were able to make it across the goalline.
*Jones-Drew also had a special teams return for a TD
Against the Niners lowly defense, it was QB Brett Favre connecting to favorite target Donald Driver 9 times for 160 yards and a TD. Rams WR Torry Holt had a tough game on MNF, but he still managed a couple of scores among countless drops for his fantasy owners. Drew Carter went for 144 receiving yards on 8 grabs (plus a score), but it's doubtful that many owners had him on their roster (and definitley weren't starting Carter). T.J. Houshmandzadeh was 8 for 118 and a TD against the Raiders. Mark Clayton, D.J. Hackett, Marty Booker, Ronald Currey, and Devery Henderson aren't the top receivers on their respective teams, but they were this week as each put up around 100 receiving yards with a score apiece. Lee Evans certainly is the favorite WR in Buffalo, but Evans had only 2 catches on the day...and still had 92 yards with a TD. Terry Glenn went a whopping 8 grabs for 150 yards, but was kept out of the endzone. Braylon Edwards caught a late TD for Cleveland in the loss to the Steelers. Antwaan Randle El had a nice game with a score on Sunday - and the ex-QB was able to throw a 40-yard pass in the effort. Bryant Johnson is number 3 in AZ, but Johnson outshined Larry Fitzgerald's and Anquan Boldin's performances in week 14. Drew Bennett, Joe Jurevicius, Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, and Chad Johnson all caught balls for over 100 yards, but none of the group was able to score.
*Randle El also completed one pass for 40 yards
Antonio Gates proved again why he's the best tight end in football with his 100+ yard effort with a couple TDs. Tony Scheffler caught 2 of his 3 receptions for TDs for any fantasy owner who started him (likely very few owners, if any). Rookie phenom TE Vernon Davis was healthy enough to play on Sunday...and Davis performed on the field with 74 receiving yards with a TD. Jeremy Shockey was again consistent with 6 grabs and a score for his owners.
News and Notes - Colts head coach Tony Dungy has huge work to do on run defense if he wants to avoid an early playoff loss - the good news for Colts fantasy owners is that Manning, Harrison, and Wayne will be kept in the games throughout the fantasy playoffs...RB Kevin Jones was place on IR for the Detroit Lions...The Giants definitely helped their playoff chances with a win over the Panthers (both were 6-6 before NYG's win in week 14)...QB Daunte Culpepper was finally placed on IR this week after a very disappointing season in Miami...QB Jake Delhomme is listed as questionable in week 15 for the fading Panthers, but will likely play this week...With the Jets, Broncos, and Chiefs all losing in week 14, the Bengals were the only team to separate themselves from the lot of 4 that went into the weekend with equal 7-5 records (Bengals now tied with Jax at 8-5 for the 2 wildcard slots...In addition to this week's TNF game on the NFL Network (San Francisco @ Seattle), remember the additional game on Saturday Night Football (also on NFL Network - Dallas @ Atlanta)
