This weekend the Bengals face one of their division rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, with plenty on the line for Cincinnati.
A loss to the Steelers means certain elimination. A win gives them a chance to claim a wildcard spot with some help.
Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis talked about the upcoming clash with NFL Sirius Radio this week. And as he did, he also discussed the possibility that this would be his final meeting with Bill Cowher as coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cowher is expected to announce next week as to whether or not he'll be returning for the final year of his contract.
Since joining the Bengals, Lewis noted that his team is 3-1 against the Steelers at Pittsburgh, but they're 0-4 against them at home. Lewis would like to change that, not just to break the streak, but to make sure his team stays alive in the playoff hunt. Other than that, he knows there's not much else he can do on Sunday but hope.
"All I can do is control what goes on -- or have a chance to control what goes on -- with my team. I can't control what goes on with those others," he said.
Looking back to last weekend, Lewis refused to focus on the missed extra point as the reason his team lost in the snow to the Broncos.
"We had the opportunity to win the football game a few times and we didn't play good enough to win the football game," he said. "And you have to learn a lesson there."
You can listen to the entire 7-minute interview, compliments of Sirius NFL Radio, where Lewis also talks about the announcement by veteran offensive lineman Rich Braham that he'll be retiring at the end of this season.
