"I give a different look at defensive tackle," Brown said. "Since I'm so agile, offensive linemen usually can't handle me. I think that athletic ability will help me out tremendously."
That athletic ability sponsors his versatility. Brown has the ability to hold his ground and collapse the pocket, making him a potentially stellar fit as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme. He also has the quick first step and penetrating ability necessary to excel as a tackle in a 4-3 alignment.
The 49ers coaching staff allowed Brown to show off all of his skills while in Mobile, Ala. for the Senior Bowl. He played both one and three techniques as the week progressed, firing off the ball and chasing relentlessly in pursuit.
Brown was fully aware of the opportunity before him at the Senior Bowl and was eager to seize it.
"It means the world to me," said Brown of his time in Mobile. "It's the biggest stage for me to showcase my talents and I feel like this could be a stepping stone for my career."
He did his part on game day, finishing with five tackles and one quarterback hurry. He was in on a tackle for a loss as well.
The scouts in attendance certainly took notice and were quick to set up individual meetings with Brown. The Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, and San Diego Chargers were among that made sure to meet with him shortly after his arrival in Mobile.
"This is a very crucial time in lives of everybody here. We just have to build on this," said Brown while in Mobile. "It is funny how things operate. It's like a meat market."
However, Brown is more than an impressive piece of meat. He has excellent intangibles and would make for a terrific locker-room addition. He is a well-spoken and articulate individual with the potential to grow into a leadership role.
Also, confidence will never be a problem given his alma mater.
Whichever team shows returns that confidence on draft day will land itself one of college football's most dynamic defensive line prospects.
