Insider Notes/Player Visit and Analysis 9.0's insiders Adam Caplan and Tony Pauline continue their insider analysis on several key players. Find out about the Pittsburgh Steelers plan for their first-round selection as well as what the San Diego Chargers might do to fill their receiver need, and what's going on with the highly touted safety position.

Tackle Not a Likely Position Early for Pittsburgh

While the Pittsburgh Steelers are very high on Central Michigan OLT Joe Staley, league sources have told the left tackle position is one they will pass up on in round one. The team wants a versatile blocker who can be used on either the left or right side. Two players they are considering in the middle rounds include Chris Denman of Fresno St. and Allen Barbre from Missouri Southern St. While he have our concerns about Barbre's size and ability to play tackle at the next level, the Steelers do not.

Safety Position Getting Much Attention

Safety seems to be the hot position as we get closer to the draft and league sources have told as many as five could be selected in the first round.

One hot name surfacing recently is S Gerald Alexander of Boise State. Several teams are considering Alexander in the third round area including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns. Alexander may not be around long enough for those teams to get a crack at him as the Philadelphia Eagles have given Alexander a high grade and could grab him in round two should they not come away with a safety in the first frame.

Elsewhere, rumors have been swirling claiming teams are concerned with the football intelligence of University of Florida S Reggie Nelson. This list does not include the Jacksonville Jaguars. Evidently, during one of his meetings, Nelson was put through a chalk session for almost and hour and came away from it just fine.

Receiver News

One team very high on University of Tennessee WR Robert Meachem are the San Diego Chargers. Receivers coach James Lofton  personally worked out and met with the Volunteer wide out several times.  Sources have told us the Chargers hope to swing a deal which would send RB Michael Turner to the Tennessee Titans. In return, the Chargers would then have control of the draft's 19th pick, which they would use to select Meachem.

Another receiver that is getting plenty of attention is Ohio St. University's Anthony Gonzalez. The Chicago Bears, who are looking for depth at the position, are believed to considering him with their first-round selection.
