NFL Rookie Reaction: LB Jon Beason Audio

After pre-draft visits with the Colts, Bengals, Patriots, Chargers, Lions, Steelers and Giants, linebacker Jon Beason became a Carolina Panther on Saturday during the first round of the NFL Draft. And shortly after he got his phone call that welcomed him into the NFL, he talked to Scout.com's Ed Thompson about his big day.

With the 25th pick overall in the 2007 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers added Jon Beason to their roster, giving them a hard-working and talented player of high personal character.

The 6-foot-1, 237-pound linebacker had gathered with family, close friends, coaches, and everyone that he felt played a role in supporting him up to that moment when he learned where he would be playing in the NFL this season.

But the initial flow of the draft didn't fall exactly as Beason had expected.

"When it was my time for my teams to come up, with Carolina and Jacksonville, both of them traded down," he said.

But before the Panthers finally made their first pick at No. 25, the phone rang and the wait was over.

While some people referenced the potential money that he had lost by Carolina not picking him earlier in the round rather than trading down, Beason looked at it in a different light.

"It's an honor and a privilege just to get drafted," he said.
