In His Own Words: DE Anthony Spencer

Want to learn more about Dallas' top pick, Anthony Spencer? Well then, let him tell you ... in his own words.

Prior to the 2007 NFL Draft, a number of teams were asking former Purdue defensive end Anthony Spencer about the possibility of playing linebacker in a 3-4 defense.  But it was clear that he preferred to continue to work his magic by harassing quarterbacks from the defensive end position at the pro level.

"I'm pretty comfortable with my hand in the dirt," he told the media assembled at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this year. "But if they want me to do it, I'm up for anything. I'm just ready for a chance."

Spencer was picked up in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys during the draft. And they'll likely count on him to make the adjustment to outside linebacker in their 3-4 scheme, competing with Greg Ellis and Bobby Carpenter unless the team opts to move Carpenter inside. But don't expect the forced move away from the defensive end position to sour Spencer in the least.

"I'm a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, I have a positive attitude most of the time," he said. subscribers can find out more about Anthony Spencer's success in forcing fumbles, what helped him rev-up his game during his senior year and more in this 3-minute audio clip from our team that was on site at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
