In His Own Words: Packers LB Desmond Bishop

Too often fans think about the exciting life that an NFL football player leads without thinking about what he's dealt with in his past. Packers rookie LB Desmond Bishop shares what he's learned from his past ... in his own words.

Growing up in a tough neighborhood taught Packers rookie linebacker Desmond Bishop plenty of life lessons that have helped him be better prepared for the challenges associated with being a player in the National Football League. But ultimately, he credits his mother with helping him find the balance between the toughness he needed to survive in his neighborhood while not drifting into behaviors that would short-circuit his dreams of playing professional football.

"At times you've got to be tough, at times you've got to be hard," he said earlier this year at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. "But then again, you've got to have integrity, you've got to be respectful."

As he grew up, Bishop was exposed to much in life that he decided just wasn't going to be a part of his future.

"I saw everything in the world in that neighborhood," he said. "It was a lesson to know what to stay away from. It's probably why I don't smoke or drink." subscribers can listen in as Desmond Bishop talks about the similar experience that he and former teammate Marshawn Lynch shared, how his family and their family business impacted who he is today and more in this 3-minute audio clip from our team that was on site at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
