RB Damien Nash (deceased)
QB Jake Plummer (trade Buccaneers)
CB Darrent Williams (deceased)
LB Al Wilson (released)

Re-signed:  LB Louis Green, FB Kyle Johnson, WR Quincy Morgan, DT Kenny Peterson, FB Cecil Sapp

Comments: Denver was very active and successful in the free agent market. Look for Henry, Graham, Stokley, Bly, and Sauerbrun to upgrade the Broncos significantly. Bell, Wilson, Carlisle, and Foster are outstanding players who will be missed. The untimely deaths of both Darrent Williams and Damien Nash is impossible to measure.

Kansas City Chiefs        Grade: C+

LS J.P. Darche, Seahawks
LB Donnie Edwards, Chargers
LB Napoleon Harris, Vikings
S Jon McGraw, Lions
OT Damion McIntosh, Dolphins

Re-signed:  --DE Jared Allen, DT Ron Edwards, LB Keyaron Fox, TE Tony Gonzalez, LB Kris Griffin, QB Damon Huard, WR Samie Parker, DT James Reed, OT Kevin Sampson, CB Benny Sapp, LB Rich Scanlon, PK Lawrence Tynes, DL Jimmy Wilkerson

Comments: Slight upgrade in talent level from additions to subtractions if one doesn't consider the untimely retirement of Will Shields

Oakland Raiders        Grade: C+

Added Lost
OG Cooper Carlisle, Broncos
OG Ben Claxton, (waivers Falcons)
OT Cornell Green, Buccaneers
FB Justin Griffith, Falcons
CB Chris Johnson, FA
QB Josh McCown (trade Lions)
C Jeremy Newberry, 49ers
RB Dominic Rhodes, Colts
TE Tony Stewart, Bengals
WR Travis Taylor, Vikings
TE Fred Wakefield, Cardinals
WR Mike Williams (trade Lions)
OT Brad Badger (released)
QB Aaron Brooks (released)
DE Lance Johnstone (released)
WR Randy Moss, (trade Patriots)
CB Tyrone Poole (released)
CB Kris Richard (released)
QB Marques Tuiasosopo, Jets
OT Langston Walker, Bills

Re-signed:  TE James Adkisson: ERFA,  RB Adimchinobe Echemandu, LB Isaiah Ekijiuba, DT Anttaj Hawthorne, DE Kevin Huntley, DL Tommy Kelly, RB ReShard Lee, DT Terdell Sands, OT Chad Slaughter, CB Duane Starks, LB Robert Thomas, WR Alvis Whitted

Comments: Stewart, Rhodes, and Carlisle were solid additions for a team with many needs. Newberry, if healthy, could go a long way toward stabilizing a very shaky and uncertain offensive front. Josh Booty??? It's hard to believe a player who couldn't stick with a club with a real quarterback need--like the Browns four years ago--could somehow now help the Raiders in any capacity. Chris Johnson (a non-starter at Louisville) has speed and looks good in a uniform, but it all ends there.

San Diego Chargers        Grade: D-

Added Lost
None  LB Donnie Edwards, Chiefs
LB Steve Foley (released)
WR Az-Zahir Hakim, Dolphins
WR Darrell Jackson (traded 49ers)
OT Leander Jordan, Falcons
TE Ryan Krause, Browns
WR Keenan McCardell (released)
TE Aaron Shea (released)

Re-signed:  DT Ryon Bingham, WR Greg Camarillo, OG Kris Dielman, WR Malcom Floyd, LB Marques Harris, OT Cory Lekkerkerker, LB Shaun Phillips, LB Carlos Polk, DE Derreck Robinson, RB Michael Turner, C Cory Withrow

Comments: The Chargers were able to retain a key member of the offensive front in Dielman, but did little else during the free agent process. Edwards played a lot of football for this team and will be missed, but the rest of the group are journeymen players. Foley was a contributing player whose career ended after he was shot by an off-duty police officer late last summer.

Tom Marino is a veteran of 35 years in the player personnel field, most recently with the St. Louis Rams. He has worked in three professional leagues (NFL, USFL, and WFL), and among his many accomplishments, is credited with the discovery of Eric Swann, the first non-collegiate player since 1946 to be selected in the 1st round of the NFL college draft.
