Scout Radio: QB Brooks Bollinger

Vikings quarterback Brooks Bollinger recently talked to's Ed Thompson about his upcoming training camp battle, the Vikings offense and some of his teammates in this exclusive Scout Radio interview.

Quarterback Brooks Bollinger is gearing up for his first training camp with the Vikings after a late-summer trade with the Jets in 2006. And he'll be striving to claim the starter's role against second-year player Tarvaris Jackson.

The Vikings run a fairly complex offense that was installed by head coach Brad Childress, Bollinger's former offensive coordinator at the University of Wisconsin. But their past association at the collegiate level hasn't had much impact on Bollinger picking up the offense since arriving in Minnesota last September.

"Probably the biggest help is that I had this offense when I came in to New York under Paul Hackett. It's not exactly the same, but it's similar, it's off the West Coast (offense) tree," he explained during a recent Scout Radio interview. "As far as Coach Childress, I was only under him while I was a redshirt freshman and I was just trying to keep my head above water.

"He recruited me, then I spent one year with him and then he moved on to Philadelphia. So I got a little taste of his offense then, but I think just knowing him and having worked with him before has helped me as much as anything."

Don't think for a moment that Bollinger is anything less than grateful for the fact that he's been put in a great situation in Minnesota where he can compete for a starter's role -- especially after years of riding a quarterback carousel in New York.

"I can't say enough about what it meant to me to have the Vikings extend that opportunity," he said. "I'm sure Coach Childress had a say in that, and I think it's worked out well." subscribers can listen to the rest of a six-minute interview with Bollinger, where he talks about what he's going to be working on during this year's camp, his biggest challenges with this offense, his thoughts on fellow quarterback Jackson, rookies Sidney Rice, Adrian Peterson, and much more!
