HOT - Tom Brady has 30 passing TDs in 8 games - double that and he's at 60 for the year (shattering Peyton Manning's 2005 record by 11 TDs). Brady and the 2007 Patriots may be the best NFL team to ever play the game. Tony Romo and Derek Anderson are holding near the top, but Manning is gaining with his numbers. Week 9 will match Brady vs. Manning in the league's biggest non-playoff game in years. Brett Favre actually went undrafted in many fantasy leagues over the past two seasons, but the magic is back in Green Bay and Favre is once again a fantasy starter in nearly every league.
COLD - New England slammed Jason Campbell and the Redskins in week 8...but Campbell gets a great matchup this weekend against the Jets. After busting out with a huge 5 TD game in Oakland, Daunte Culpepper has gone cold...Josh McCown has been named the week 9 starter against Houston and we may never see Culpepper start again for the Raiders. Damon Huard's time in Kansas City may be limited unless he can get things going. Joey Harrington is back in the saddle for the Falcons...but Atlanta needs more than Harrington to be successful. Vince Young and Alex Smith have performed just plain awful this season.
HOT - LaDainian Tomlinson didn't do much in week 8 and faces Minnesota's solid run D in week 9 - but how do you take the leading fantasy RB off the HOT list? Adrian Peterson may have been the steal of the draft...this rookie is unbelievable. Brian Westbrook is both consistent and versatile every week. The Colts' Joseph Addai will be in the top 2 in RB stats by the end of the year. Rookie Marshawn Lynch gets another great matchup this week.
COLD - Cedric Benson and Thomas Jones are staying in the fridge until they put up more TDs...2 scores on nearly 300 rushes between the Bear and former Bear just don't get it done on any level. Steven Jackson was in long enough to score in week 8 (prior to heading back to the locker room with another injury). Let's see if Laurence Maroney can put up more than a few yards against the Colts. Rudi Johnson says he's back this week and playing...we'll see. Tatum Bell is frozen.
HOT - Randy Moss, Braylon Edwards, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are on fire and burning secondaries every week. Plaxico Burress isn't far behind ( Burress has a bum ankle and gets a fortunately timed bye in week 9). Wes Welker is for real and will torch the Colts if the Indy secondary pays too much attention to Moss and Donte Stallworth this weekend. I believe Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, and Terrell Owens were my top 4 preseason fantasy WRs - they'll have to bump up in the second half to make that prediction a reality.
COLD - Reggie Brown finally put up some nice yardage in week 8 and needs to add a touchdown in week 9 to move him completely from the freezer. Marvin Harrison is doubtful to see action against the Patriots this weekend. Javon Walker is hoping to return this season...but still has a few weeks to recover before consideration as a fantasy play.
HOT - Antonio Gates is amazing and just keeps on giving...he'll give some more this week with a wonderful matchup against the Vikings. Jason Witten, Dallas Clark, and Kellen Winslow are all having sensational seasons typical of a top 15 wide receiver. Benjamin Watson should play this week against the Colts and present Indy with some added red zone fits.
COLD - Vernon Davis had a solid week 8, but needs another strong week of stats before fantasy owners become believers. L.J. Smith has healed and hopes to begin contributing soon...he'll be kept from fantasy rosters until he demonstrates he's still a factor in the Philly offense.
