Pre-Draft Team Needs-New York Giants

The New York Giants are coming off of a Super Bowl victory but general manager Jerry Reese will be looking for help on both sides of the ball.

Players Added

David Carr/QB - This addition was a surprise despite the fact that Carr was coached previously by quarterbacks coach Chris Palmer who was Carr's first offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans. Carr's play was so poor last season that some wondered if he would have a contract in 2008.

New York already has veteran QB Anthony Wright under contract for another season and also has Jared Lorenzen who is a restricted free agent but was tendered a one-year offer by the club.

Danny Clark/LB - The veteran linebacker is now with his fifth NFL team in six seasons but Clark is capable of playing all three linebacker positions. He's best used on the weak-side or in the middle.

Sammy Knight/FS - He revived his declining career last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and showed that he has a few quality years left in him.

Players Lost

Kawika Mitchell/WLB - Signed with the Buffalo Bills. Second-year WLB Gerris Wilkinson is set to take over for him.
Reggie Torbor/SLB - Signed with the Miami Dolphins. Torbor filled in for Mathias Kiwanuka last season after Kiwanuka was injured.
Gibril Wilson/FS - Signed with the Oakland Raiders. Sammy Knight will take over.
William Joseph/DT - Signed with the Oakland Raiders. The former first-round pick missed all of last season due to injury.

Pre-Draft Team Needs

1) Cornerback - It's not a secret that the team talked to the Atlanta Falcons about acquiring CB DeAngelo Hall and veteran CB Sam Madison turns 34 next month. While the team finally got something last season out of former second-round pick Corey Webster, the team could still use young, high-end talent at the position to eventually take over for Madison.

2) Defensive Tackle - Veteran DT Fred Robbins just turned 31 and team really lacks quality depth on the interior of their defensive line.

3) Wide Receiver - Both of their starting receivers Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer are in their 30's and Toomer's contract is set to expire after 2008. The only true developmental receiver they have who could take over one of the spots is Steve Smith who came on strong for the team late last season.

4) Defensive End - If veteran DE Michael Strahan decides to retire, the team's depth at the position will be tested. That will likely necessitate a move of Mathias Kiwanuka from SLB to DE.
