Pre-Draft Team Needs: St. Louis Rams

The St. Louis Rams have upgrades to make in several areas and we're taking a look at they need to do in the draft to get back to the playoffs.

Players Added

Trent Green/QB - He'll end his career as Marc Bulger's backup.

Reche Caldwell/WR - He'll compete for the No. 3 role.

Anthony Becht/TE - The blocking tight end should help their running game.

Jacob Bell/G - He takes over the left guard spot which was more like a turnstile last season.

David Macklin/CB - The journeyman defensive back will compete for a nickel role.

Players Lost

Gus Frerotte/QB - He'll handle the No. 2 role for the Minnesota Vikings.

Isaac Bruce/WR  - He's reunited with Mike Martz.

Aaron Walker/TE - He wasn't offered a contract and will be looking elsewhere for work.

Andy McCollum/OL - Some believe he'll be retiring.

Milford Brown/G - He'll compete for playing time with the Carolina Panthers.

Todd Steussie/OL - The journeyman offensive lineman is probably done playing.

Raonall Smith/LB - The career backup missed most of last season with a knee injury.

Brandon Chillar/SLB - He'll compete for a starting job with the Green Bay Packers.

Hanik Milligan/S - The special teams ace remains unsigned.

Pre-Draft Team Needs

Defensive End - Both projected starters are in their 30's and the defense only posted a very low 31 sacks last season.

Wide Receiver - With the decision to release Bruce, that leaves the team woefully thin at the position. Drew Bennett is slated to take over for him but they don't have anyone of note to back him up. It should also be noted that veteran WR Torry Holt continues to deal with knee problems.

Defensive Tackle - There is a debate in league circles in regard to where second-year DL Adam Carriker should line up. Carriker started off his rookie year at nose tackle but in the final quarter of the season he was shuffled to at least three defensive line spots. A league source believes he'll eventually play left end or the "3-technique" tackle position. With that said, the team could use a true run stopping interior lineman.

Strong-side Linebacker - With Chillar lost in free agency, that leaves an opening in his spot. Versatile veteran LB Chris Draft, who would be first in line to replace him, is probably best suited as a backup.
