Pre-Draft Team Needs: Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs look like an expansion team when you look at their roster. However, they have 13 picks to use on draft weekend. How should they use those picks? Details inside...

Players Added

Devard Darling/WR - He did a nice job last season but Darling is best used coming off of the bench. He has good size and talent but lacks consistent play from game to game.

Wade Smith/OL - He's capable of backing up at a few spots.

Demorrio Williams/WLB - He'll be the eventual replacement for WLB Donnie Edwards.

B.J. Sams/KR-PR - He should prove to be an upgrade over Eddie Drummond.

Players Lost

Kris Wilson/FB-TE - He fell out of favor with Kansas City but Wilson got a lot of attention in free agency and wound up signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eddie Kennison/WR - He was cut and may have a hard time finding a job.

Samie Parker/WR - Parker will come off the bench with the Denver Broncos who were in desperate need for speed at receiver.

Jason Dunn/TE - The blocking tight end remains unsigned.

John Welbourn/G - He's still looking for a job.

Casey Wiegmann/C - He could start for the Denver Broncos if Tom Nalen gets hurt or decides to retire.

Kyle Turley/OT - He's expected to retire for good.

Chris Bober/OL - The versatile backup is still unsigned.

James Reed/DT - He should be able to find work as a backup by the time training camps start.

Jared Allen/DE - They got a lot in return for him in the trade with the Minnesota Vikings. But Allen's talent will be lost. It's going to be hard to replace his 15.5 sacks from last season.

Jimmy Wilkerson/DE - He'll get playing time off the bench with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kendrell Bell/LB - He'll go down as one of their worst free agent signings in the past 10 years.

Keyaron Fox/LB - He found a backup job with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ty Law/CB - He still wants to play and the New England Patriots have interest in him.

Benny Sapp/CB - The backup defensive back will play on special teams and likely in the dime defense with the Minnesota Vikings.

Eddie Drummond/KR-PR - Drummond was a disappointment last season but he'll be replaced by Sams.

John Carney/K - The 44-year old kicker still wants to play but he's unsigned.

Pre-Draft Team Needs

Defensive End - With Jared Allen traded, there's no one left on the roster to replace him and Kansas City didn't have a solid pass rush to begin with.

Right Tackle - This position has been a revolving door for a while and needs to be addressed.

Center - The hope is that Wade Smith could be insurance at the position but there's no true starter on the roster.

Cornerback - With Ty Law gone, there's no one left on the roster to replace him. And depth is a big issue. There are no experienced players coming off of the bench.

Guard - Starting LG Brian Waters is 31 and the RG job is open. Depth is also a big problem.

Wide Receiver - Dwayne Bowe turned out to be a solid rookie last season but the team needs someone who could start opposite him. Depth is also an issue.

Left Tackle - Starter Damion McIntosh is 31 and it's debatable whether he should be starting at this point. What the team needs is a developmental left tackle who could start by year two or three. Whether Will Svitek is that player remains to be seen.

Other Issues to Address
