TOP ROOKIE DeSean JacksonAll that I heard during this past off season from Eagles fan was that they were only a wideout (DeSean Jackson), shutdown corner (Asante Samuel) and inside interior defender (Trevor Laws) away from going to the Super Bowl. Well if management had that same feeling they might want to think of another way of making a living.
Comments: The offensive line, minus their top performer Shawn Andrews, has performed poorly, the club is still searching for a bell cow receiver, in his seventh professional season Brian Westbrook is starting to show some wear and tear, quarterback Donovan McNabb is no longer at the top of his game and former All Pro safety Brian Dawkins appears to have slowed and is no longer a force on the back end.
DeSean Jackson has excellent hands, runs outstanding routes and is a top punt return man, but is acutely undersized and is an absolute hot dog!
Ownership has stated on more than one occasion that Andy Reid is his guy, but that rhetoric is starting to wear a little thin in the city of brotherly love. The scouting staff has few recognizable names and the overall direction of the front office is in a word scattered.
Overall the Eagles are really not a bad football team, but will likely again finish at the bottom of the very competitive NFC East division. Realistically the club is not close to challenging for the big prize, but as they prepare for that possibility in the future, expect a new coaching staff to be at the controls for the Eagles.
