The Birds are in a favorable position on the eve of free agency, but also have to make some very critical decisions regarding which of the high priced veteran players the club will atempt to re-sign & which of the rather ordinary group of free agents throughout the league they may consider signing.

Comments - Although the Eagles have just seven player listed as Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA) they will have some very important decisions which could radically impact this football club. Both of the clubs starting offensive tackles are on the list and even though both are up there in terms of service (11 and 13 years), it is imperative that the club resigns at least one of these players. Keep two things in mind; Eagles tackles, twice a year will have to match up against Jason Taylor, Andre Carter, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Greg Ellis and Demarcus Ware! Secondly for those of you that don't agree with my thoughts on the matter try and remember Winston Justice's effort versus Osi Umenyiora on September 30th, 2007 (six sacks in a team record twelve sack effort). The problem they face is that Runyan underwent micro fracture surgery at the conclusion of the season and given his age and body weight, I would have some real concerns about his playing future. Safety Brian Dawkins at 35 is no longer the player he once was back in the 1998 to 2005, but he still is the inspirational leader of this football club. I really liked what I saw in Joselio Hanson and so do the Eagles who signed the future star to a five year extension just prior to the start of free agency. Considine lost his starting job and has a hefty price tag considering his role with the club (special teams player). Correll Buckhalter is a very dependable back up player, who does a great many things to help this football team win football games, but I'm certain the Eagles would like to find an eventual replacement for Westbrook. Due to the emergence of Brent Celek and a very high cap number (Franchise figure), tight end L.J. Smith' career in Philadelphia is without question over. Celek struggles to run and is certainly not a seam threat, but is a more than adequate blocker and highly dependable short and intermediate receiver.
