Lions, Seahawks Set Dates With Sanchez

Over the weekend,'s Ed Thompson walked you through USC QB Mark Sanchez's busy week. Now he's got the scoop on two other teams who are also penciled-in on the talented quarterback's schedule.

As reported over the weekend, USC quarterback Mark Sanchez was slated to meet with three teams this week, beginning with a meeting last night with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Before the week is over, Sanchez will have a visit with the New York Jets and a workout with the Washington Redskins under his belt.

The Detroit Lions, who hold the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, have now scheduled an official visit with Sanchez for April 16-17, according to a source. The team has already had Georgia's Matthew Stafford, the draft's other top-rated quarterback, in for a visit on March 10.

The late visit by Sanchez sets the stage for a dramatic finish should the team opt to select a quarterback with the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Another team that has entered the picture for Sanchez is the Seattle Seahawks, who are scheduled for a dinner meeting with him on March 31. He's also scheduled to meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars that evening, his second scheduled meeting with that club this month.

Seattle has the No. 4 pick in the first round while the Jaguars are at No. 8.

The Seahawks have Matt Hasselbeck as their starter, but the 33-year-old veteran is entering his 11th season and was only able to start in seven contests last season due to injury. The Jaguars appear to be looking for a potential franchise quarterback who could compete with incumbent David Garrard for the starter's role.
