The Packers begin 2009 with no projected starters from the 2008 draft. Guard Josh Sitton, OT Breno Giacomini, QB Matt Flynn, and LB Jeremy Thompson (4) are listed as back ups while WR Jordy Nelson, QB Brian Brohm, DC Patrick Lee, have disappointed. Wideout Brett Swain needs to show quickly.

The Packers have an experienced respected scouting staff and I really liked what they did throughout the two day draft. I have absolutely no problems with their top selection B.J. Raji between the lines, but quite frankly due to a number of indiscretions, he is going to need to be monitored closely off the field. Clay Mathews is an true football successful story. Virtually un-recruited, he made himself an excellent football player through great determination and hard work. Thomas Lang was another good get for the Pack; not highly rated, I really liked what I saw from this college tackle in 2008. Johnson is an under appreciated fullback who will contribute as a developing back up and special teams player. Jamon Maredith did not play particularly well in 2008, but this guy is a good athlete with feet, bend and playing range. He is going to have to improve hand placement and improve his mental toughness, but I like this guy, particularly in round number five. Underwood is an Ohio State transfer who is a very good athlete and ran a lot better than I had originally anticipated. I didn't think he was particularly tough and was in my mind an ankle grabber as a tackler.
